Principal's Message

Marian Dowling

Principal

As principal of Berger Vandenberg School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone to another great year. We are excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. It is our mission to help every student feel welcomed, connected, and part of the BV family. Additionally, we strive to challenge each student to grow in their academic abilities and be ready for the next grade level. At BV, we have great teachers who spend time planning and creating classroom activities to engage our students in learning. Our teachers utilize research based best practices and analyze academic data to determine current skill levels and set goals for growth and improvement. The students at BV have great potential, and it requires every individual in their lives to purposefully work together for their success. We believe that close cooperation between our school and your home is essential for your child’s educational experience because we believe that “no significant learning occurs without a significant relationship” (Comer, 2004).

District 149 has a specific “Uniform Policy” for all of our students. The students are required to wear navy blue pants/skirts/jumpers with a light blue top. The students’ shoes must be dark in color (no crocs, slides, or flip flops). Students are not permitted to wear jackets or hoodies in the classrooms. Sweaters and/or sweatshirts must be navy blue or light blue. Additionally, boys are not permitted to wear earrings. We are also pleased to inform you that Dolton School District 149 will continue the implementation of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), an option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast programs, for 2025-2026 school year. Schools that participate in CEP are able to provide healthy breakfasts and lunches each day at no charge for all students enrolled in that CEP school.

If you have any questions, please call the school office. We feel that open and clear communication between school and home is important to the success of our educational program. We look forward to working with you and your child(ren) for a wonderful, productive school year filled with rich academic experiences supported by highly effective instructional strategies!
